We can confirm that Peter Vincenti will undergo surgery on Friday.
He's having an operation on the recurring ankle problem, which has already kept him sidelined for much of the season so far.
After the op, he is expected to be out for up to four months.
Manager Keith Hill commented: "It's annoying and it's a very frustrating situation we find ourselves in with Peter.
"You want your influential players and the players who sing your song on the training pitch and the matchday pitch on a regular basis. Peter is certainly in tune with that and we shouldn't devalue his impact on the season so far, particularly in a successful and important victory over Fleetwood Town. We're going to lose him now for between three to four months, which is a tragedy."
