David Syers Delighted To Be At Dale

18 January 2016

Rochdale’s new signing David Syers has spoken highly of the club and the squad in his first Dale PlayerHD interview.

The midfielder, who left Scunthorpe United earlier this month, put pen to paper on Monday afternoon, signing a deal at Spotland until the end of the season.

He commented: “I agreed to cancel my contract at Scunthorpe last week, and from my point of view, I wanted to get sorted straight away and get playing.

“I made sure Rochdale were approached very quickly as to my availability because of how much I admire the club.

“I’ve seen how the team play and how well they’re doing and I thought that it was a club that I could fit into and hopefully do well for.

“When the Gaffer said, yeah, come down, I was over the moon.”

He continued: “I’ve been training with the lads for the last week and it has gone well.

“I know quite a lot about the club because Scunthorpe and Rochdale obviously got promoted to League One in the same year, so I know how good the team is. To then come in and see what the lads are actually like and how they are in training, there really is a lot of quality here and hopefully I can add to that.

“Every session so far has been a demanding session. There’s a lot of football but there are a lot of very good footballers. It’s done at a good pace and that’s what the Gaffer wants – that’s what he’s always drilling into the players.

“That’s what you want out of training because that then breeds competition for places. I’m under no illusions that I’ve got to work very, very hard just to get a place in the matchday squad. That will be the first aim, then I’ll go from there.”

The full interview is on Dale PlayerHD.
