Manager Keith Hill praised the professionalism of his players following Saturday’s FA Cup win over Carlisle United.
Dale booked their place in the third round of the competition with a 2-0 victory over the League Two leaders at Brunton Park.
Steven Davies opened the scoring early in the second half with a deflected volley and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing netted in stoppage time to see Dale safely through to the next round.
Speaking after the game, Hill commented: “Carlisle are a good side and we know that they’re an effective side. They’ve got very good players and it was similar to a League One game – I’m sure they’re going to get promoted.
“They’re very dangerous at set-plays, which we were aware of, and I thought we defended quite well.
“I thought we could have won the game by a bigger margin but the game was very tight. We had good opportunities in the first half and then it became very difficult in the second half when we went 1-0 up because they’re coming at you. They were playing with four up front and that’s when I thought we could have scored one or two more opportunities.
“We knew we had to be professional, we knew we had to be on our mettle, and we were for the majority of the game. We didn’t give them too much encouragement and I’m pleased with how professional we were.
“I’m sure the Chairman is pleased that we’re through to the next round and I’m pleased that we’ve won again. We’ve only lost four times in the last 20 games.
He added: We’re into the next round and one thing we’ve always done while I’ve been at this football club is balance our books and make money, and we intend on continuing to do that.
“We’ve got a good team going here. We’ve got some very good young players who are learning their trade and it’s important that we carry on with that momentum.”
