U18s: Shrewsbury Town 1-2 Rochdale

26 April 2016

Rochdale’s U18 side extended their unbeaten run to five games after winning 2-1 away at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

A late winner from Aaron Morley gave Dale maximum points after a first-half goal from Harry Pratt was cancelled out.

Dale opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Joe Piggott played a first-time through ball into Matthew Gillam. The forward unselfishly squared the ball across to the penalty spot where Pratt had found space, leaving him to calmly slot the ball into an open net.

The home-side equalised in the 29th minute from a long range set piece. The ball was chipped into the box at pace and found its way past Johny Diba.

Morley, who linked up with a fellow under 16, sealed the points for Rochale five minutes from time.

Pratt darted in from the right and played a quick pass straight into Daniel Adshead’s feet. The youngster’s great first touch allowed him to quickly slot the ball through to Morley, who had made a clever run around the outside of the Shrewsbury left-back. Morley sent the keeper the wrong way from close and finished coolly into the bottom right.

The side now look forward to welcoming Shrewsbury Town to Radcliffe Borough for the return fixture on Tuesday (April 26th).
