October proved to be a mixed bag of results for Dale, but ended superbly with wins over Swindon Town and Yeovil Town.
The month started with a 1-0 loss to Barnsley, which was followed by a defeat in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy - Keith Hill side’s exited the competition with a 1-0 defeat to Walsall at Spotland.
Dale were then held to a 1-1 draw by Gillingham at home, despite a dominant display. Peter Vincenti had given Dale the lead on 25 minutes, but were forced to settle for a point as Cody McDonald struck with seven minutes of the game remaining.
Two long trips in the space of a week remained before the month was out as Rochdale firstly travelled to the County Ground for a mid-week fixture, before facing Yeovil Town at Huish Park just four days later. Six points from six were achieved as Dale finished the month with a flurry.
A stoppage time goal from Bastien Hery earned Rochdale three points against high flying Swindon Town on the Tuesday evening, creating one of the best celebration scenes of the season. Anton Rodgers’ first half goal had given the home side a 1-0 lead heading into the interval, but Dale drew level five minutes after the re-start through Matty Lund. Peter Vincenti sent Keith Hill’s side ahead on the hour mark, before Michael Smith levelled the proceedings. Hery secured all three points in stoppage time after heading home from a Michael Rose corner ball.
Days later and Rochdale were back on the road as they made the long trip to Somerset to face Yeovil Town.
A double from Ian Henderson and a first ever Dale goal for Jack O’Connell saw them secure their second away win of the week with a comfortable 3-0 victory over the Glovers. O’Connell headed home from a Rose corner after just six minutes, before Ian Henderson struck beyond Artur Krysiak ten minutes later. Henderson rounded off proceedings eight minutes after the break.
