McDermott Pleased With His Goal & The Three Points

21 December 2015

Man of the Match Donal McDermott spoke to Dale PlayerHD following Saturday’s 3-1 win over Colchester United...

The Irishman scored Rochdale’s second of the game with a drive from the edge of the area, sending Dale into the lead.

“I can’t really remember the goal to be honest but the boys said it was [a sweet finish],” laughed McDermott.

“I was just happy because I didn’t think I was doing very well first half.”

The win sees Dale sitting mid-table ahead of the half-way point in the season, with the side able to equal or surpass the number of points accumulated after the 23 game mark last season, something McDermott is pleased with.

“To break the 30 point barrier after 22 games is great. If we win our next game we’re ahead of where we were last season and they [the boys] had a great season last year, so hopefully we can do that then push on and get as many points as we possibly can, which is what we’re trying to do."

Dale are back in action at Spotland on Boxing Day, so it’s business as usual for the players this week. McDermott is looking forward to the week ahead.

“This period is important. We’ll work hard [this week] and roll onto the next one.

“I’m not really a big Christmas man to be honest so I’ll be happy coming into training - I’m looking forward to it to be honest.”
