Jamie Allen Will Wear The Armband

7 August 2015

We can confirm that Jamie Allen will wear the matchday armband.

The midfielder, who is a graduate of Dale’s successful Academy, takes over from Olly Lancashire and Ian Henderson who shared the role during the 2014-15 campaign.

Speaking to Dale Player, Manager Keith Hill commented: “We spoke about it as a staff and we spoke about it to the squad, and we don’t really want to ladle anybody with the pressures because there can be pressures of being a matchday or a club captain.

"But we’ve decided that for the foreseeable future that the matchday Captain will be Jamie Allen.

“He has been at the club since he was nine years old and I think he is ready for the responsibility.

“He’s well respected by the staff and by the players, and he’s one of our own with respect to being a Rochdale lad. I think it’s quite fitting that someone who has been at the football club for so long should get the matchday arm band.

"There are plenty of Captains within the squad - Ian Henderson, Oliver Lancashire, Peter Vincenti, Michael Rose, Brian Barry-Murphy, Jim McNulty, Josh Lillis, you name it.

“But I think it’s a sign of respect and it ultimately shows how far Jamie has come. I think that everybody will see that Jamie deserves to carry the matchday armband for the foreseeable future.”
