Hill: In Good Shape After Phase One

17 October 2014

Fresh from the international break, Dale are back in action at Spotland this Saturday.

Gillingham are the visitors for the match, which is Dale’s twelfth league fixture of the season.

Hill is pleased with what he calls “phase one” of the season and says we’re in good shape heading into the next phase.

He told Dale Player: “There are a lot of things that we’ve been debating during the last week or so as staff. If we draw comparisons to when we last got promoted, it’ funny really, because after eleven games we had 16 points, like we do now, although we got there a little bit different. We’ve won five, drawn one and lost five, whereas last time we won four, drew four and lost three.

“What we have done is suggested a mini target after 23 games and then we’ll try and build again. The next 12 games will give us an indication of where we’re actually at, but at this moment in time we’re in good shape with the squad of players that we’ve got.”

And looking ahead to this weekend's game, Hill says that's expecting a “difficult” match against the Gills.

“I have respect for the [Gillingham] management team, Gillingham as a football club and the players that they’ve got – they were promoted a season earlier than we were. It’s going to be a difficult, difficult fixture.”
