Ashcroft: A Great Occasion For The Boys

3 November 2014

Head of Academy Coaching, Rick Ashcroft, spoke to Dale Player ahead of Tueaday night’s FA Youth Cup first round tie v Nantwich Town at Spotland…

“Any time you walk out onto the pitch it’s a massive thing for the boys. It’ll be good for them, good for their families and good for everyone involved. It’s nice for them to play here at Spotland when they’re around the club so much, but ultimately it comes down to them walking out on that pitch and playing the game when they cross that white line.

“Nantwich will be a tough test. We went to watch them [against Marine] to have a look at what they do and how they play. They’ve got good energy, they’ve got intensity up front and they’ve got some good players, so it’ll be a test for us.”

He continued: “I’m looking forward to it and I’ve sensed an excitement (from the lads) of wanting to do well.

“We haven’t taken anyone lightly this year and the players have shown a good level of maturity and responsibility towards what they’re trying to do. That has shown recently in performances but also in their attitude and endeavour to do the right thing regardless, so it should be a great occasion for the boys.”
