Lillis Is Looking Forward To Next Season

20 May 2014

Josh Lillis has spoken to Dale Player after agreeing a new two-year-deal with the club...

“I had a great season with the all the lads and as soon as the season finished, although I knew I was out of contract, I was looking forward to the new season straight away," said Josh. "I just felt like I was going to be here next season, so it didn’t take long to get it [the contract] signed up.”

The 26-year-old played in all but one competitive game for Dale during the 2013/14 season, and he is delighted to have been involved in the promotion winning squad.

“The season previous to this I played all 46 league games and that’s why I signed at the club – I needed to play games and to miss just one in two seasons proves it was the right decision.

“In my career I’ve been through a few promotions – I went up twice with Scunthorpe, but I was never an established number one there, I was a bit part player, so to come here, be an established number one and get promotion, especially with my family coming here every week, was really enjoyable.”

Goalkeeping coach Steve Collis also agreed a new two year deal with the club on Monday, and Josh is looking forward to working with him again next season.

“I spoke to Steve last week and he told me that he was staying on for another two years, which was pleasing as I’ve really enjoyed working with him. He came in as a player initially and it was good to work with him then, but obviously he has stepped into his role nicely and it’s beneficial for all of us.”
