Hill: The Squad Is United

25 November 2013

Manager Keith Hill has been reflecting on Saturday’s win over Exeter City, as well as looking ahead to Tuesday night’s encounter against Scunthorpe United, in his latest Dale Player interview…

“Exeter are a good side and we knew that going into the game,” said Hill. “I think Paul Tisdale’s philosophy has brought Exeter a lot of success over previous seasons and I do believe they’re a team who will be challenging at the right end of the table.

“It was always going to be a difficult fixture for us because of the make-up of their side, so I’m really pleased that we were victorious. We also gave a good account of ourselves. We had to be patient at times but we didn’t lose our discipline and after they got their equalising goal we stuck to task and were worthy winners.”

Scunthope United are the visitors to Spotland on Tuesday night and Hill reckons it will be a difficult game.

“They’ve [Scunthorpe] retained the majority of their League One squad and recruited the likes of Deon Burton, so I think the caretaker manager has got a good squad of players to work with. They’ve been threatening all season to get into the top seven, and the top three, and I think they’ve got that capability. They’re a good side and it represents a difficult challenge for us.”

Rochdale remain joint top of the division following Saturday’s win over Exeter City and while Hill admits confidence is high, he is taking nothing for granted.

“We can’t get in front of ourselves and we can’t put the team under too much pressure, and I won’t do.

“I think the players are playing well and the squad is united, but football is fickle and you can’t be presumptuous. We’re looking forward to it and as a long as we work hard with honesty, endeavour and commitment, and they show that willingness and eagerness to win football matches then we will have a very good season.”
