Beech: They Were Tremendous

18 November 2013

Assistant Manager Chris Beech spoke to Dale Player following Saturday’s 2-1 win over Morecambe at the Globe Arena…

“The lads were tremendous today. We came with a game plan and they stuck to it," said Beech. "

"It was always going to be a wrestle and Morecambe came out the traps quite well but as the first half progressed we felt that we were beginning to get on top of them as we went in at half time. We came out into the second half looking to maintain that standard and turn the screw a little bit more, and that’s exactly what the lads did.

“It’s important that you start the game well and a lot of managers, especially when I played, were all on about your start, but for me it’s how well you finish. You can recover [during a game] but you’ve got to be able to stay in a game to do that. Everybody wants to start well but finish great and that’s exactly what we did. We got stronger as the game went on and that’s a psychological thing that we try to maintain throughout our training sessions.”

He continued: “It’s vital to win what would be classed as derby match. Morecambe were right on our tails [in the league] and they still are but we’ve just put a bit of light between us. They’re a spirited team, they’ve got a good young manager who’s full of that sort of endeavour and demand for himself and the players that play for him.

“But we’re pleased with the way the players are going and we’re pleased with where we’re trying to take them because we believe there’s still a lot more to come. We don’t believe we’re near the finished article.”
