Manager Keith Hill has bolstered his defensive options ahead of the start of pre-season with the addition of Olly Lancashire.

The 24-year-old centre half passed a medical at Spotland on Friday afternoon before penning a two-year-deal which will come into effect on the 1st of July.

The defender makes the move to Rochdale following his departure from Aldershot Town and Dale boss Keith Hill is delighted he's become part of Team Rochdale.

“I’m really pleased with this addition," said Hill. "He’s a protégé of Southampton’s successful development and I’ve liked him for a long time. He’s a good football player, he reads the game well and it is a really good pick up for us.

“When he was due to leave Southampton in 2010 we tried to recruit him but missed out and subsequently he’s been at Walsall and Aldershot.

“He struggled with injury last season but he’s over those injury concerns now and he’s really looking forward to working with us. He understands that we’re ambitious, he’s ambitious and he’s looking to get going again.

“I’m really looking forward to working with him during pre-season and making him compatible defensively with the players that we’ve got."
