Coleman looks ahead to Gills trip

28 September 2012

Dale travel to Kent this weekend to face league leaders Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium.

Full back Kevin McIntyre will miss the match after the appeal against his red card in Saturday’s match against Dagenham and Redbridge was rejected.

The Gills have had an impressive start to the season and have dropped just two points so far this campaign.

Manager John Coleman has spoken to Dale Player ahead of the encounter:

“[Losing Kevin] is a massive blow but we’ve just got to get on with it. He could have been injured on Saturday so that would have been out of our hands as well. We’ve got good players to come in and hopefully we can perform like we have done away from home the last couple of games.”

He continued: “Gillingham are a well-supported club, they’ve got a good infrastructure and I think they’ll have a decent budget to work on so you’d expect teams like that to be challenging.

“I knew Dagenham would be tough and I know Gillingham will be tough. I expect every game we play to be tough but you’ve got to accept that and that is why it makes it so vital to pick up three points when you can.

“You do have a lot of overnight stays in League Two and as long as you can get the players prepared right you can use it to your advantage because it means you get a bit more time to spend with them.”
