Donnelly: Best Feeling Ever

8 October 2012

Dale striker George Donnelly says “it was the best feeling ever” to finally net his first goal for the club.

Donnelly, whose work-rate has been commendable in recent weeks, bagged his first goal in style after netting with less than 30 seconds on clock with a superb strike from 20 yards against Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

“To get the first goal is a big relief, it is a weight off my shoulders,” said Donnelly.

“I can’t even remember much about it to be honest. I think the defender came in and as the ball bounced up in front of me I just thought there is only one way this going and I caught it sweet.

“I was saying to the Gaffer before the game about how frustrated I was as I haven’t had the chances and he said to me ‘you’ll score today’. Now that the first goal has gone in more will come, all I needed was that first one.”

On the game itself, Donnelly said: “Once the goal went in it looked as though we could have gone on to score three or four more but we made it difficult for ourselves.

“We’ve been in the same situation a few times this season already and the lads continue to stick together. We are determined that we want to win and that’s what pushes us on.”
