Cavanagh Interview

17 August 2012

Dale Captain Peter Cavanagh has been reflecting on last weekend’s 4-3 extra time defeat against Championship side Barnsley, and ahead to this Saturday’s league opener at home to Northampton Town.

“I think that if we can create that type of performance in league games we’ll certainly get more positive results than what we got on Saturday,” said Cavanagh.

“The work that we did in Austria is beginning to come out now and we’re starting to look more threatening in games. To score three goals against any Championship team is a significant achievement and we’re hopeful that once we start playing teams who are more on our level that will carry on.

“We had video analysis day on Monday where we identified a few things that we could do better on. They’re not major things but there are three or four things that can contribute to conceding a goal, so there are things that we can still improve on."

He continued: "I think it’s important that we build momentum from very early on, especially on the back of a relegation season when there wasn’t that many wins to cheer about. The sooner we can get points on the board, get the fans on board, get everyone together and build a bit of momentum, it’ll be better for everyone.”
