Report | Harrogate Town 1-1 Dale

8 May 2023

Dale picked up a point at Harrogate Town in our final game of the season.

Jimmy Keohane opened the scoring midway through the first-half, rounding off a fine team move.

Toby Sims equalised in the second-half to deny Interim Manager Jim McNulty a fourth win in his eight game spell in charge.

McNulty named an unchanged starting 11 from last weekend’s 4-1 win at home to Sutton United. First year scholars Brooklyn Bailey and George Nevett, who made his first team debut last weekend, were named on the bench, as Danny Lloyd missed out due to illness.

Dale saw plenty of the ball early on with Tyrese Sinclair firing wide from the edge of the area after a lay off from Ian Henderson, whilst Kazeem Olaigbe sent an effort into the arms of Richard O’Donnell at the other end.

Henderson then picked up on a loose back pass to the goalkeeper but saw his shot well blocked by Matty Foulds, who got back quickly.

Dale’s all-time leading goalscorer then laid the ball off to Ethan Brierley, who had a first-time effort from the edge of the area blocked.

Henderson was heavily involved in Dale’s opener. A lengthy spell of possession led to the striker skipping past his marker in midfield and finding Sinclair with a through ball. He squared first time for Keohane, who took a touch and fired home on the slide to break the deadlock.

Brierley had another effort from distance, this time after breaking forward on the counter, but fired wide.

Towards the end of the half, the hosts created a number of chances, including a one-on-one on the counter which Olaigbe sent wide.

Levi Sutton fired over from distance and Luke Armstrong looped a header into the arms of O’Donnell.

The final chance of the half fell to the hosts, when Toby Sims sent Joe Mattock’s knock down over from the edge of the six-yard box.

After the break, Henderson’s pull back from a tight angle was deflected on to the top of the crossbar, whilst Sam Folarin also hit the outside of the post via a deflection from Ethan Ebanks-Landell.

Sinclair saw a first time effort well blocked and O’Donnell plucked a header from Luke Armstrong out of the air as it was destined for the top corner.

The hosts grabbed their equaliser in the 74th minute, when a cross to the back post was cushioned home by Sims.

It would be the last real chance of the game, as the spoils were shared in our final game of the season.
