Ryan is a left-sided defender who joined Dale from Burton Albion in January 2018, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal at the Crown Oil Arena. This contract has since been extended to the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

After starting his career at Wexford Youths, the 21-year-old moved to The Brewers in the summer of 2016, but went on a season-long loan to Cork City the following January. He returned to Nigel Clough’s side in December 2017 at the end of his loan deal.

Delaney started 30 of Cork’s 33 league games in 2017, scoring five goals, as the side were crowned League of Ireland champions. He also helped Cork to FAI Cup success, as they did the double, notching up 49 appearances in total during his spell there.

Capped at U21 level by the Republic of Ireland, Ryan’s outstanding performances for Cork earned him a place in the PFAI Team of the Year.
