Afuye Impressing At Guiseley

7 March 2024

Michael Afuye has continued to impress at Guiseley since joining the Lions on loan in January.

Afuye has added another three appearances to his Guiseley tally in the last few weeks.

First up, the 22-year-old caused the Morpeth Town defenders all sorts of problems with his quick feet and audacious skill moves and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

Andy Welsh's side were 4-1 winners in that game. Soon after they travelled to Stafford Rangers where the winger picked up more valuable minutes, playing for over an hour in the narrow 2-1 defeat.

Afuye came off the bench late on against Atherton Collieries, helping the Lions to see out a 2-1 victory in his most recent appearance.

Guiseley are now sixth in the table on 52 points after 30 games played, just one point behind fifth place Macclesfield, three points behind Marine in fourth and four points adrift of Rylands and Hyde United, who are third and second.

Radcliffe, who are the league leaders, have a fifteen-point gap on the teams closest to them and will be hard to catch now.

Guiseley do have games in hand on all but one of those teams above them and therefore still have a lot to play for.

The Lions face a tough test in their next game as they host the table toppers, who are unbeaten in their previous league games.

That being said, Radcliffe's last defeat was to Guiseley, who took all three points in the reverse fixture, winning 4-3.

Good luck, Mikey!
