McNulty Disappointed With Defeat

3 September 2023

Jimmy McNulty says he was disappointed after Saturday’s loss at home to FC Halifax Town.

Rob Harker’s goal midway through the first-half proved to be the difference, with the Head Coach saying Dale weren’t good enough in possession.

“I’m disappointed we’ve lost at home,” said McNulty.

“I feel like the worst we should be taking from a game like today is a 0-0 draw, or at least scoring a goal ourselves and taking a 1-1.

“I think we, as a group, got things wrong in the first-half. Halifax, as a team, did well. We addressed it at half-time and found more space in the second-half.

“My overriding feeling is that through this disappointment, we still should be taking a point from games like this, when we have large parts of the game.

“We weren’t good enough with the ball today and weren’t able to break them down.

“Halifax were offering us more space in behind that we didn’t utilise in that first-half. Teams offer you different things and sometimes it isn’t what you quite expect.

“Teams do change playing against us, coming here. We’ve seen already, a number of teams sitting in, and it can be difficult to break down ten men when they have a man sent off, and a very organised 11 is also difficult as well.

“I thought they were that today and I don’t think we quickly enough tried to take advantage of what was on offer today, which we did better in the second-half.

“But today was also a moment whereby, you could see the shallowness of a squad, when the game needs a difference.

“I wanted a fairytale for Hendo today, on his 400th appearance, but people like Hendo and like Kairo need help. We had no forward on the bench today, which is going to show in some games. It showed today.”
