George Nevett Signs Professional Contract

29 July 2023

Rochdale Football Club are delighted to announce that George Nevett has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The 17-year-old defender has put pen-to-paper on a deal that lasts until the summer 2026.

Nevett made his professional debut towards the end of last season, in our final home game against Sutton United.

He has been training permanently with the First Team this pre-season and has impressed in his friendly outings.

Commenting on signing his contract, Nevett said:

“I’m over the moon. I can’t wait to get started, play in front of the fans, and hopefully show them what I’m about.

“I’m very proud. All the setbacks you get, to finally get to the place you’ve wanted to be your whole life, is a very proud moment.

“I’m really excited and looking forward to the season. Pre-season has gone well. Jim [McNulty], what he’s brought in has been great, everyone has been getting a better understanding of the way he wants us to play and we’re all looking forward to the season.”

Head Coach Jimmy McNulty commented:

“Myself and Kevin [Gibbins] are absolutely delighted to reward George with his first professional contract.

“We feel it is fully deserved, not only based on his performance level on the pitch, but even more so on his attitude, ethics and application to try and be the best he can be every day.

“He’s taken on our messages from day one and has shown full commitment, and desire, to execute them every single day since his inclusion in the First Team environment.

“This is a proud moment for George and his family which should be cherished. He has earnt the respect of his fellow professionals to this point, but the work starts now for George.

“It is now about him continuing to work daily on his development to strive to reach his potential and become the player that we believe he can be.

“We are delighted to have George with us, and I’m personally very happy for him and his family.”

Congratulations, George!
