Dale Join Campaign To Reunite Stephen Darby With Prized Memorabilia

18 January 2023

Fans from across the country have been urged to come together to launch a campaign to reunite for Dale loanee Stephen Darby with some of the most prized memorabilia of his footballing career.

Darby started his career at Liverpool and enjoyed loan spells with Swindon Town, Notts County and Dale before joining Bradford on a permanent deal in 2012.

The defender was forced to hang up his boots after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2018, aged just 29.

A private seller reluctantly put up Darby’s framed match-worn, signed shirt from Swindon Town’s play-off semi-final victory over Charlton Athletic in 2010, for sale. The Sir Tom Broadbent Lounge, a Swindon podcast hosted on Twitter Spaces, vowed to buy the shirt and return it to Darby and his wife, England International Steph Houghton.

Darby scored the winning penalty in a shootout to send Swindon into the final against Millwall.

Darby’s former sides have shown tremendous support for the campaign, and a GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for the Darby-Rimmer MND Foundation. All profits from this charity appeal will be donated to Stephen’s foundation.

If you’d like to get in contact with regards to donating a piece of memorabilia to the appeal, please contact @T_STBL on Twitter.
