We Need To Build On This - Bentley

11 January 2023

Jim Bentley wants Tuesday’s win at Bradford City to be something Dale can build on.

Ian Henderson’s second-half brace completed a memorable comeback at the University of Bradford Stadium, moving Dale out of the relegation zone.

Bentley’s men welcome Colchester United to the Crown Oil Arena on Saturday, and the gaffer wants another big push from his players.

“It’s a big result for us away from home, against one of the top sides that ask questions of you,” said Bentley.

“I’m pleased that we showed the character to come back from 1-0 down at half-time and win the game. I thought there were some real strong performances and on the balance of play, I think we deserved it.

“It’s been a long time coming. We go into every match with a gameplan, we come with the belief that we can win every game.

“It was a really strong team performance, with everything that we needed in the position that we are, to get a magnificent away result.

“Hopefully, it’s something we can build on, move forward, and start putting more wins on the board to get ourselves away from where we don’t want to be.

“We’ll dust ourselves down [from tonight] and recover. We go into another big game at the weekend. I don’t even know who we’ve got after that because I don’t look too far.

“In this game, all your energies have to go into your next game. We’ll reflect on this and look at what we’ve done well.

“It will give us a shot in the arm, it's a big three points for us, and it sets us up for the home game against Colchester, who are investing, they’ve paid money for three or four players recently and they’ve had a couple of good wins.

“It’s coming to that stage where everyone is battling and fighting to get away from the bottom and we’re no different. We’ll look for another big push on Saturday and try to get another win that puts us even further away.”

The boss also reserved special praise for the 408 travelling fans.

“I thought the fans were fantastic.

“To come here, the biggest crowd in the league, and our fans do what they did, even when we were 1-0 down, getting behind us and driving us on.

“When it went to 1-1, you could see the lads lifted, the crowd got behind us and it was great that we got that second goal.”
