Plenty More Points To Play For - Rodney

9 January 2023

Devante Rodney says there are plenty more points to play for, with only just over half of the season played.

The forward’s sixth of the season helped earn Dale a point against Newport County on Saturday, but it means Jim Bentley’s men still find themselves in the bottom two.

Whilst Rodney says the team are disappointed with the position Dale find themselves in the table, he knows there is enough of the season left to pull away from relegation zone, starting with Tuesday’s game at Bradford City.

“We’re all disappointed [with where we are] but we’re only just halfway through the season, so there’s plenty more points to play for,” said the 24-year-old.

“Game-by-game we’re just focusing on the next game, and we’re going to go to Bradford and try to get three points.

“It's going to be a tough game, but I feel like against good sides, we can sit in and hit them on the counter attack.”

The stalemate against the Exiles made it back-to-back draws, following the point picked up at Barrow last week.

“It was completely different from the Barrow game today [Saturday]. That was a scrappy game, it was a fight.

“In the first-half today we showed quality with the ball, in terms of playing out from the back and creating a good amount of chances.

“We were disappointed that we didn’t come in at half-time 2-0 up.

“In the second-half we didn’t start good enough, we gave away a cheap foul and I thought I could have done better in stopping the cross. It’s gone through everyone and gone in at the back stick.

“It was disappointing, but I thought we reacted well, and we probably deserved to win it in the end.”
