Dale Make Platt Lane Switch

3 February 2023

We’re pleased to announce that the club have agreed a deal for the first team to train at Platt Lane Sports Complex in Manchester.

From Monday of this week, the complex became our permanent training facility, for at least the next 18-months.

The players and staff had been based there for a fortnight previous, before the club signed a deal with the venue towards the end of last week.

Manager Jim Bentley, speaking in the first week of training at Platt Lane, commented:

“It’s a great facility. We’ve had issues with loads of rain back in Rochdale over the past couple of months and the pitches have deteriorated.

“With the cold weather that we’ve had recently, a lot of clubs at our level and above will be training on AstroTurf pitches.

“It’s a really good, professional environment here. We’ve got everything from 4G pitches to analysis rooms, so it gives us everything we need.”

Located in Fallowfield, the complex belongs to Manchester Metropolitan University, offering a variety of high-quality grass and 4G pitches, indoor and outdoor, meaning the players can train whatever the weather.

There is a fully equipped gym, as well as meeting rooms, an analysis room, and recreational space.

It is not the first time Dale have trained at the facility. The first team were based there as recently as 2019.

At this present time, no similar facility in the local area is available to Dale on a permanent basis, which is why we have had to move further afield.

The club are committed to returning to the Rochdale Borough in the future, as mentioned by Chairman Simon Gauge in an interview last month.

We would like to say thank you Rochdale Sports Club, which has been our regular training facility for the last three-and-a-half years.
