Youth Team Report | Port Vale 2-6 Dale

16 August 2023

The Youth Team ran out 6-2 winners at Port Vale On Saturday.

Goals from Darren Ehimamiegho, Lucas Bispo-Martinez, John Dunlop, and Mateus Mane, as well as a brace from Brooklyn Bailey secured the three points in the EFL Youth Alliance League for Dale on Saturday.

Ehimamiegho scored Dale's first from the penalty spot. Despite the Valiants 'keepers best efforts after diving the right way, he could only deflect the ball across his goal and into the far corner.

Dale pressed well for their second goal, winning the ball back in their own half following a Port Vale attack. An outside-of-the-boot through ball nearly found Ehimamiegho, who was looking to grab his second of the game. However, the Port Vale shot-stopper rushed out to intercept the ball. Once again though, Dale were on hand and first to the ball.

This time it was Dunlop who picked up the ball outside of the box, running to his left to create an opening whilst leaving the 'keeper stranded, he then lifted the ball into the net evading any covering Port Vale defenders.

Dale's press once again would earn them an opening. A short pass from the Port Vale goalkeeper was pounced on by Bispo-Martinez, who took one touch to take him away from the defender, a second to set himself and then the third was a calm, low-placed shot into the back of the net.

The fourth goal of the game for Dale came from Bailey, who headed in a perfectly weighted cross from the right.

Into the second-half and another penalty would see Dale add to their tally. This time it was Bailey who was stepping up to take the spot-kick. The Dale midfielder made no mistake as he finished neatly into the bottom left corner to extend his side's lead.

The final goal of the game for Rochdale came from a move down the left which found Mane in the box unmarked, some quick footwork allowed the Dale man to create an opening. He then fired across goal into the bottom right corner, rounding off a strong performance from the Youth Team.

Next up, they face Preston North End away from home in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup this coming Saturday.
