Youth Team Report | Blackpool 2-0 Rochdale

26 September 2022

Rochdale U18’s fell to a defeat in the league on Saturday, following a 2-0 loss away to Blackpool.

Goals from Jake Daniels and Luke Byron in either half of the game sealed victory for the home side.

Dale started the game sharply and had a penalty shout waved away by the referee. After Jadel Yaduat had raced in behind to latch onto Zac Greenwell’s pass, he looked to have been brought down as he got his shot away, but there was nothing given.

The game then went a bit flat until the Seasider broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute. Donovan Lescott teed up Daniels who fired passed Ellis Craven to give hosts the lead.

Blackpool then threatened further in the half, with Craven equal to Jaden Jones’s low from the edge of the box.

The ever-threatening Dannen Francis then tried his luck with a curling effort just inside the area, however his effort dipped late and sailed narrowly over the bar.

Blackpool’s pressure continued and in the initial stages of the second half they doubled their lead. Francis worked his way to the by-line and crossed for Byron who swept home the ball to extend their lead.

The Seasiders came close to adding a third, but Lescott had a header at the back post cleared off the line by Paddy Watts.

Dale did have chances themselves as the game progressed. Anisio Jesus worked his way into area and drove a shot towards goal but was kept out Blackpool keeper Archie Cunningham who parried it away.

Substitute Joel Street had the best chance of the half for Dale, but he struck narrowly over the bar.
