Jordan Scanlon On Central League Cup Win

7 September 2022

Jordan Scanlon played his first minutes of the season on Tuesday, as he came on as a second half substitute in Dale’s Central League Cup tie against Lincoln City.

Scanlon, who signed his first professional contract this summer, missed pre-season through injury.

His return to action saw him score a stoppage time winner and set up Connor Malley’s goal, just moments after coming on.

He said it was great to be back out on the pitch.

“I’m buzzing to have played today and to have got a goal and an assist.

“I haven’t played a game since last season, because I was injured for all of pre-season so today was about getting a run out and getting fitness, so to get a goal and an assist is really pleasing.”

Scanlon unfortunately suffered a collision injury to his knee at the start of pre-season, but he says he’s been focused on coming back fitter and stronger.

“I picked up the injury on the second day in Scotland, which was disappointing, but everything happens for a reason and I just made sure that I was going to come back fitter and stronger.

“I’ve been working hard during my time out, doing my rehab, going in the gym and then building up my fitness by getting back to running and sprinting, before getting back into full training a few weeks ago. I’ve been building towards this, so it was good to get some minutes today.”

And Scanlon says it’s great to have that winning feeling.

“It’s always nice to win. To win a game is a boost for everyone, and everyone was pleased there at the end. I know this was a cup competition, but hopefully we can take forward the positives from it and take some momentum into the league, as we try to get our first three points of the season.”
