It Feels Great To Get The Three Points - Sam Graham

10 October 2022

Defender Sam Graham spoke to after Dale’s 1-0 win over Newport County.

Rochdale superbly stood firm against an onslaught of pressure during the second half to keep a clean sheet and secure three points on the road, after James Ball had put the side ahead after just five minutes.

“Honestly, it feels great getting those three points, especially the way we got the game over the line,” said Graham.

“It was a great start for us with Bally [James Ball] scoring early. It was something we had spoken about before the game, about midfielders getting into the box when crosses are put in, and he did that and got the goal, so I’m really happy for him.

“The second half was more of a grind. They were putting balls into the box and putting balls in on top of us, so we had to roll our sleeves up and deal with it, and I think we did that well.

“It was only a 1-0 goal lead that we had and we knew that anything could happen, so it was about making sure we did everything that we could to hold onto our lead, and we did that. Everyone stuck together, we all rolled our sleeves up and it was a group effort from everyone to make sure we got the three points.”

And Graham says with three games in a week now coming at the Crown Oil Arena, starting on Saturday, it’s important that the team build on Saturday’s victory over the Exiles.

“It’s important that we keep the momentum going. We can’t play well today and then drop off next week when we’re at home. We need to be consistent and we need to do it every week, especially when we now go into Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday.

“Everyone was disappointed after the Doncaster game, given that we had such a good result the week before at Colchester, so we don’t want a repeat of that. Hopefully we can back up the win at Newport when we play Barrow on Saturday, especially with the fans behind us.”
