Gaffer On Barrow Point

13 March 2022

Manager Robbie Stockdale on Dale’s 0-0 draw with Barrow at the Crown Oil Arena…

“I felt it was a fairly scrappy game. I think we had the one big moment of the match and that was  early on with Tahv [Campbell] going through and the ‘keeper makes a good save,” said the gaffer.

“We huffed and puffed a little bit. I’ve just seen all of our attempts or chances back and we should doing a bit better with a couple. I think on a very, very difficult surface, we try to do the right things but we’re just slightly off creating those really big chances. We’re maybe not missing the chances, it’s the pass that leads to the chance and if we can improve that, then we’ll start scoring goals again.”

He continued: “In general terms, I thought both teams who were a little bit anxious. It was I, suppose, a proper League Two type of game - lots of physical duals, 1v1s and ball in the air a little bit.

“We stood up to that challenge [compared] to last week where we didn’t stand up to it enough, so I was really pleased with that aspect of our game.

“Of course we want to play better but it’s a clean sheet and it’s another game unbeaten here. I accept that we need to win these games to move up the league, but there are certain bits I can take out of it and be satisfied with.”

The Boss added: “We had a little bit of upheaval before the game. Liam Kelly took ill and had a fitness test early in the afternoon so he was unavailable and so George Broadbent came in late notice. He was on the bench anyway, but I thought he was excellent and grew into the game.

“We’ll accept that it wasn’t pretty but, the clean sheet is a major plus for us and we look forward to another difficult game on Tuesday.”
