Hopwood Community Primary Star At Tournament

9 March 2022

Pupils from Hopwood Community Primary took part in the regional stage of the 2021/22 Premier League Primary Stars U11s National Girls Football Tournament this week.

Having previously won the Rochdale Borough event, the side went up against other schools from across the North West representing Rochdale AFC at the event, hosted at The Cliff in Manchester.

The team played extremely well, winning four and draw the other of their games in the group stages, before narrowly losing out to Altrincham FC in the semi-final.

As well as playing in the fixtures, the team also took part in activities and challenges and got their photos with the Premier League trophy!

Graham Hicks the Rochdale AFC Community Trust Primary Stars lead, commented: "I'm so proud of all the players today - they worked so hard to get to the semi-final.

“It was fantastic to take this group of children to The Cliff to represent Rochdale AFC, and I’d like to say a big thank thank you to Mr Beamish and Hopwood Community Primary for helping to make this possible.”

If any schools would like to get involved with our Primary Stars programme please contact Graham.Hicks@rochdaleafc.co.uk.
