Rochdale Football Club can announce that long-serving matchday announcer Dave Sweetmore is taking a step back from his matchday duties.
Dave’s workload outside of the club has increased considerably in recent months and continues to do so post-covid, with him scheduled to work numerous festivals, gigs and tour events in 2022/2023 and beyond, much of which takes place at weekends.
We are, however, pleased to say that Dave will still continue working across other areas of the club, the first of which will be hosting an upcoming Fans Forum (date to be announced soon).
“I have absolutely loved my time as the club’s matchday announcer and I am proud of the reputation that we, as a club, have built across the industry for the music that’s been played here,” said Dave.
“My passion in life is music and I have been very fortunate enough to make a career out of it. Since the easing of Covid restrictions, my work schedule has increased considerably to the point where I now need to take a step back from the matchday announcing.
“The football club has been a huge part of my life, having been involved here for more than half of it. I’ve met some amazing people along the way and I’m really pleased that I will still be around, getting involved in events and keeping those relationships going.”
The club’s Chief Operating Officer George Delves added: “First and foremost, we thank Dave for his excellent service to the club, and we are pleased that he has agreed to remain part of the Dale family.
“We will still be seeing him hosting events such as fans forums and our end of season awards, as well as getting involved in community activity and stadium tours. His reputation across football speaks for itself, and whilst we are sad to see him step down from his matchday role, it’s no surprise that demand for his services in the music industry continues to grow.”
As a result, we are looking to a recruit a new matchday announcer and are taking applications for the role. Experience is preferable.
