Youth Team Report | Blackpool 6-1 Rochdale

31 January 2022

There was a heavy defeat for Rochdale's under-18s in the quarter-finals of the Youth Alliance Cup on Saturday, away at Blackpool.

Dale started the better of the two teams with glimpses of early chances which saw Anisio Jesus turn his man inside the box early on but his shot was fired wide.

Twenty-four minutes in, Blackpool took the lead from a corner which saw Will Squires produce a brilliant finish.

Five minutes later, the Seasiders doubled their lead when Arnold Matshazi found Jake Daniels who slotted home from close range.

In the 38th minute, the hosts made it three. Ellis Craven’s attempted pass out from the back was intercepted by Luke Mariette and he played in Matshazi who found the back of the net.

After the break, Matshazi scored Blackpool's fourth and his second of the day.

On the 67th minute mark, Dale pulled one back when a corner found Jesper Laurence, who headed home from close range.

But two goals in as many minutes, soon after, demolished any chance of a late Rochdale come back.

James Harrison produced a superb strike to make it five, before Johnny Johnston rounded off the scoring.
