Robbie Stockdale Previews Colchester United Trip

7 January 2022

Read what manager Robbie Stockdale had to say ahead of Saturday’s game against Colchester United…

“They [Colchester] played the other night in the EFL Trophy,” said the gaffer.

“We haven’t played for quite a while now. We’re assessing the players physically, in terms of those players that have had Covid. Have they fully recovered? Are they still carrying over a little bit of a hangover from the Covid situation? We’re assessing that daily.

“It’s been really difficult today [Thursday] to find anywhere to train [due to weather conditions]. That was a problem in the morning, but we managed to find somewhere to do a session.

“Monday and Tuesday was excellent with the boys who came back in absolutely fantastic.

“We’re expecting, as we always do, a difficult game. I always say it, but I think we perform at our best, we’re a match for anyone in the division. But we need to do that and we need to find that consistency.

“That’s probably one of the biggest frustrations of the games being called off after the Newport win, because, purely from a manager’s point of view, to build that momentum would have been really helpful. We’ve got to start again and the first opportunity to do that is at Colchester.”

Watch the full interview with the gaffer below on YouTube, where he talks about the Covid postponements, January transfer window, George Broadbent’s loan extension and more.
