The Youth Team were held to a 0-0 draw at Oldham Athletic on Saturday.
Dale created the better of the chances, including a flurry late on in the game, but couldn’t find a winner.
After an even and quiet start in terms of chances, Dale created two in the space of three minutes, when Jesper Laurence headed over Ethan Brierley’s free-kick, before Peter Thomas saw a shot held by Oldham goalkeeper Luke Southerington after driving forward to the edge of the area.
Brad Kelly held Vani Da Silva’s 20-yard strike as the hosts created their first chance, before Paul Kyffin was denied by a good save after being found by Brierley, who then fired a free-kick over from 20-yards.
Mworina Doro fired wide, and James Simms saw a header deflected over, either side of the break, for the hosts.
Dale almost broke the deadlock in bizarre circumstance when Southerington hit a clearance against Thomas. It rolled across the face of goal before Kyffin went sliding in, but the Latics stopper just got there before him.
Brierley then fired a low ball across the face of goal, which was cleared as far as substitute Mikey Caldwell, who shot narrowly wide.
Paddy Watts and Simms exchanged headers off target for the teams, before Jordan Scanlon had a low shot well saved.
He then had another effort turned round the post as Dale ramped up the pressure, before Kershaw headed the resulting corner wide.
Substitute Darren Ehimamiegho had arguably Dale’s best chance when he fired over one-on-one.
Caldwell then had a header cleared off the line in the final moments as Dale were left frustrated, unable to find a winning goal.
