Youth Team Report | Dale 2-3 Accrington Stanley

15 August 2022

The Youth Team were beaten 3-2 at home to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

Dale took the lead just 12 minutes into the game when Liam Anderson fed a through ball to Bassett Mandey, who rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home.

The visitors equalised just after the half hour mark when a through ball was neatly clipped over goalkeeper Ellis Craven.

Stanley took the lead on the stroke of half-time after Dale failed to clear a cross from the right, with the ball being converted from just inside the area.

Oscar Kelly scored his second in as many games to equalise for Dale ten minutes after the interval.

Anisio Jesus held the ball up well on the halfway line before feeding Kelly, who drove forward, past a couple of Stanley defenders, before slotting home.

However, the visitors bagged a winner six minutes from time, when they broke beyond the Dale defence and converted a chance at the second attempt after Craven had made a good initial save.

The Youth Team are next in action when they take on Stockport County in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup on Tuesday 23rd August, 1pm kick-off, at Bower Fold.

Dale XI | Craven, Cunningham, Watts, Nevett, Sutton, Dos Santos, Mandey, Kyffin, Jesus, Anderson, Kelly.

Subs | MacLorg, Ayub, Dunlop, Bailey, Kyle, Ehimamiegho, Yaduat.
