Ahead of Saturday’s game against Grimsby Town, Robbie Stockdale says he wants his team to reach the same levels they did in Tuesday night’s win against Burton Albion.
Dale were 2-0 winners in the Carabao Cup tie and now the gaffer wants to get a first league win of the season.
“There’s nothing that builds confidence more than winning football games,” said Stockdale.
“It wasn’t so much the result that was impressive, it was the performance. So, with that, we know that we’re capable.
“Even though we had the two poor results the week before, it’s so early in the season, it doesn’t really have a bearing on where will end up.
“It’s nice to get that first win, albeit in the cup, but now we need to get it in the league.
“Make no mistake, we’ll have to get to the same kind of levels that we did on Tuesday to achieve it.”
The gaffer praised the atmosphere at the Crown Oil Arena during Tuesday’s game and is hoping for more of the same on Saturday.
“In my time here, I haven’t experienced the atmosphere that we had, certainly at our home ground.
“The supporters got behind the players, the players responded and gave them something to shout about.
“I actually felt really good coming off the pitch at the end. There was a nice vibe around the place.
“We want that again, we want to try to create that hostile atmosphere here and there will be times in games where we’re not playing well, and that’s where we need the fans even more.
“That’s the difficult bit I guess, that’s where the balance is. If we can start on the front foot and create that backing – the players love it.
“If you think about what it must be like for Ben Nelson, Femi Seriki, Ethan Brierley, and those young players, it’s their first experience of playing in front of a decent crowd.
“Getting supported must be a fantastic feeling and hopefully make them play even better.
“Now, I accept that with that comes the pressure of playing well, but we don’t want what we had at the end of the Gillingham game, that’s not what the idea is.
“If we do our bit on the pitch, I’ve no doubt that the fans will do their bit off it.”
