Gaffer Ahead Of Season's Final Home Match

29 April 2022

Robbie Stockdale says the ambition is for his players to finish the season as strongly as they can.

Dale welcome Bristol Rovers to the Crown Oil Arena on Saturday in our final home game of the season.

The gaffer wants to continue the recent home form, which has resulted in just one defeat in 16 games.

“The ambition for the players is to finish as strongly as we can,” said Stockdale.

“We’ve been really competitive at home with one defeat in 16 games and we want to continue that, and make sure our supporters go home happy, like they have been on numerous occasions recently.

“The [recent home wins] have been much needed. They were all tight games. We’ve seem to have drawn a lot at home, which means you’re always in the game.

“We’d liked to have won more of them, but every game we play is difficult and Saturday will be no exception to that with Bristol Rovers going for promotion.

“We feel that at home we’re a strong team and any team coming here, with the backing of our supporters, is in for a difficult afternoon.

“They [Bristol Rovers] strengthened quite significantly in January, spending quite a lot of money in terms of bringing players in, and it’s paid off for them, so credit to them.

“It’ll be a tough game, but I feel like we can give any team a game when we’re at it and when we play our best. That’s the aim of going into the game on Saturday.

“We’ve got a couple of injuries which will be assessed on Friday. Paul Downing has had a scan which has shown he has a fractured ankle, so that’s him out for a significant period of time. Other than that, it will be pretty much the same squad that went down to Exeter last weekend.”
