Dale Welcome New Redwood Interns

27 October 2021

Redwood Secondary School’s partnership with Rochdale AFC is as strong as ever, with their Supported Internship now into the third year.

A new group of interns have now started their programme, with the students carrying out several roles within different departments across the club.

Redwood Internship Manager, Marie English, is delighted with the continued partnership.

“It has proven to be a huge benefit for all parties,” said Marie.

“Not only do the students provide invaluable help for departments across the club, but the partnership has also allowed them to develop their skills in a working environment.

“Of last year’s cohort, 82% have earned employment off the back of their internships. It has given them the self-belief that they can work and live a fulfilled life.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to the staff and the Board of Directors of the club, who continue to embrace the Internship, and allow our students to flourish.”

The connection between Redwood and Dale began almost 15 years ago, through the Community Trust’s coaching sessions and workshops at the secondary school.

In 2019, the Supported Internship programme began, with the club taking on a number of the students into paid employment.

We believe the programme was the first of its type at a professional Football Club, and is something we are extremely proud of.
