Dale extended their unbeaten league run to six games after a goalless draw at Walsall.

Robbie Stockdale had named an unchanged starting eleven from Tuesday’s win at Notts County, but was forced into an alteration before kick-off when Aidy White picked up an injury in the warm-up. Jimmy Keohane replaced him.

Both sides had an effort blocked early on, as Tyrese Shade had a shot blocked by Max Taylor, before Jake Beesley saw a volley well blocked inside the area.

Jay Lynch was forced into action a couple of occasions in the first 45, making a strong save with his body from George Miller’s one-on-one, before the same player tested him again just after the half hour mark.

A ball was flicked on to the Walsall man inside the area and he caught his first-time volley sweetly, but Lynch flew to his right to turn away with a strong hand.

Shade and Liam Kelly exchanged efforts wide of the target before half-time, at which Aaron Morley was replaced by Stephen Dooley after picking up a knock.

Kelly and Dooley both had shots well blocked from the edge of the area as Dale grew into the second-half and created a number of openings.

Kelly had a low shot well held and Corey O’Keeffe fired a left footed effort narrowly over after neat interplay with Beesley.

A minute later O’Keeffe rattled the crossbar, when Josh Andrews won the ball back high up and found the Dale number two, who rifled an effort past the goalkeeper but found the woodwork.

O’Keeffe was on the end of another fine Dale move, orchestrated by Alex Newby who played one-two’s with Andrews and Beesley, before finding O’Keeffe who had a shot blocked behind.

Lynch was called up on again in the final ten minutes, when Jack Earing’s effort found its way through several bodies. The Dale stopper saw it late but got a firm hand to the shot.

Abraham Odoh came on in place of Andrews and had a headed chance late on when he was found by Kelly, but he sent it wide.

Conor Grant replaced Newby for the final four minutes but neither side could create a clear-cut chance, settling for a share of the spoils.

Dale XI | Lynch, O’Keeffe, Taylor, O’Connell, Morley (Dooley 45’), Beesley, Newby (Grant 86’), Dorsett, Keohane, Andrews (Odoh 74’), Kelly.
