Dale recorded yet another emphatic victory on Saturday afternoon, beating Oldham Athletic 5-2.
Goals from Joe Wright, Jordan Scanlon, Luke Nock (2) and Peter Thomas ensured all three points in a game where Dale produced an excellent attacking display.
Wright opened the scoring when Ben Chalton found Thomas with an inch perfect goal-kick, who then beat the last defender before squaring the ball for Wright to finish.
Thomas found Wright again minutes later, with the latter showing great skill before unleashing a shot over the bar.
The away side equalised and then took the lead not long after – the referee pointing to the spot after Ethan Pye attempted a slide tackle in the box. Jim Simms stepped up for Oldham and sent Chalton the wrong way.
Dale responded well, Thomas going close with a header which was cleared off the line, before equalising soon after.
Scanlon showed great feet on the edge of the area to get past three Oldham defenders before firing a shot towards goal which deflected into the bottom corner to get back on level terms.
Dale then got a penalty of their own when Adam Cullen was fouled as he attempted to get on the end of a Louie Chorlton cross, with Nock stepping up and sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to restore their lead.
Chorlton nearly got on the scoresheet himself, lashing a shot against the crossbar following a goalmouth scramble.
On the stroke of half-time, Nock doubled his tally with a glancing header from a Ben Kershaw free-kick to put daylight between the two sides.
The second half produced a limited number of clear-cut chances unlike the first period, but Dale still managed to grab a fifth.
Ethan Brierley found Thomas with a great pass who progressed into the box before firing a shot in from an acute angle.
That was how the game finished, with Dale showing great character to come from behind to get a positive result and build on Tuesday’s win against Blackpool.
