Rochdale Football Club are saddened to learn of the passing of former player Terry Melling.
Melling was a member of Dale’s promotion winning squad in 1968/69, making 20 appearances and scoring eight goals in the historic campaign.
He played for Slough Town, Tooting & Mitcham United, Maidstone United and Tow Law Town as an amateur in his early 20s, whilst serving as a soldier in the Army.
The centre-forward turned professional 1965, joining Newcastle United, before moving on to Watford, Newport County and Mansfield Town.
It was from The Stags that Melling joined Dale in September 1968, playing a key part in the squad which went on to win promotion in his one and only season with Dale.
He joined Darlington before the end of the 68/69 season, later joining Scarborough and then returning to Tow Law Town.
The thoughts of everyone at Rochdale AFC are with Terry’s family and friends at this sad time.
