Cloughie Legacy Fund Donates Hundreds Of Shirts To Local Foster Children

24 June 2021

On the anniversary of David Clough’s passing, we’re delighted to announce that his legacy continues to live on with an amazing gesture to Rochdale’s foster children.

As supporters will be aware, upon his passing in 2020, he bequeathed his entire estate to Rochdale Football Club, leaving what is now known as the ‘Cloughie Legacy Fund’.

Towards the end of last season, the fund was used to purchase Dale replica shirts from the Club Shop to give to foster children across Rochdale.

A range of sizes were bought, to ensure all cared for children in the Borough, no matter their age, could receive a shirt.

David Clough and his wife were foster parents and Richard Wild, executor of his will, says this gesture would have meant a lot to them both: “I am delighted to have worked with the club to make this happen. Both Mr and Mrs Clough were extremely proud to have been foster parents and I’m sure this gesture would have put a big smile on Cloughie’s face.

“I’d like to thank Rochdale Borough Council who have distributed these shirts to foster children and families.”

Frances Fielding, Dale’s Commercial Director, added: “David was obviously a very selfless individual who put others first, from fostering children, to, of course, raising hundreds of thousands for the club over many years, and it’s amazing to see his legacy living on and making such an impact.

“It’s great that we have been able to help combine two of David’s loves in this gesture. We hope it has also put a smile on the faces of foster children across Rochdale.”
