EURO Fever At The Dale!

17 June 2021

Rochdale AFC Community Trust kicked off a EURO 2020 themed summer tournament recently, with eight teams taking part across under-7s and under-9s age groups.

Ballers FC, Wardle Blacks, Wardle Whites and Diggle FC are taking part in the under-7s competitions, with Bridge Hawks, R-Kix Giants and the Rochdale AFC Wildcats taking part in the under-9s section.

"We have put the competition together as junior teams have missed a lot of football through the pandemic," commented Siobhan McElhinney, Rochdale AFC Community Trust Manager.

"It's great to see kids playing. There is a range of standards, and more teams are set to join us as their league campaigns draw to a close, but it’s a been a good atmosphere, especially now the Euro’s have kicked off and the players look to emulate their heroes!"

Rochdale AFC Director Tony Pockney also popped along to one of the sessions, showing his support for the work of the Community Trust and grassroots football locally.

"The children have a fantastic energy about them! It's great to see them enjoying their football again and I’m really happy that we, as a club, can facilitate juniors playing on the new Kick Pitch through our amazing Community Trust," commented Tony.

Places are still available for any local junior teams, regardless of standard, who want to play five-a-side football regularly throughout the summer.

Due to demand, we have now added an under-8s competition, launching on Saturday 3rd July!
