Rochdale AFC have a long standing history of developing talent on the pitch, but this time it’s a trainee off the pitch who has signed on and stepped up.
Ikram Irfan has joined Rochdale AFC Community Trust full-time as Business Administration Assistant, having recently worked as a trainee.
Ikram, from Rochdale and a former Oulder Hill pupil who holds a black belt in karate, completed a 12-week Traineeship training programme with Rochdale Training, covering employability and other key skills, before being accepted on a 70-hour work placement at the Crown Oil Arena.
"Ikram really impressed us with his work ethic and his willingness to take on any task during his placement," commented Ryan Bradley, Community Director.
"From donning his suit in the office, supporting Soccer Schools and working on the Military Veterans charity day, Ikram gave his all and was eager to learn. I can’t wait to have him with us full time."
Ikram will take up a full-time role as part of the Kickstart Scheme, which sees the Government support the first six months salary of young people making a step into employment.
He said: "From being a trainee, I have gone on to work full-time at Rochdale AFC Community Trust. During my short time here, I have gained invaluable first-hand experience of various jobs available at the football club. I will always be grateful for this opportunity."
Following his six-month Kickstarter placement, Ikram hopes to take on an apprenticeship in an appropriate field.
