BBM's Post-Match Reaction - Northampton Town

24 February 2021

Manager Brian Barry-Murphy reflects on Dale's 0-0 draw with Northampton Town, a game that was played out in difficult blustery conditions at the PTS Academy Stadium.

It was the side’s second successive clean sheet, following the weekend's goalless draw with Plymouth Arygle.

“The conditions were obviously very difficult but the lads’ attitude and appetite for the game were perfect,”said BBM.

“I thought our performance, at times, was very, very good. The opposition had a couple of chances in the second half but overall, I thought it was only a matter of time before we scored and  it’s difficult to probably be happy with a draw in the end.”

He continued: “I think it [the wind] was very difficult for both teams. In the first half playing against a strong wind, we looked particularly dangerous on the break and we looked dangerous from set-pieces - I thought we were going to score early on.

“In the second half, there’s a presumption that you’re going to go on and dominate the game when the wind is in your favour but that wasn’t always the case and, again, Northampton had their own breakaway moments, but we had a real good chance near the end of the game where I thought we would score and we didn’t. But the lads’ resolution and attitude to defend as a team when we’re missing so many players was testament to what they are putting in.”

The Boss added: “There are real positives from the lads in what we’ve been doing - we definitely created good chances tonight - which want to do as a team, and the overall attitude of the lads to improve every aspect of their game has stood us well over the course of the season. That is something that we’re keen to maintain as we progress into the next part of the season.”
