Kwadwo Baah & Matty Lund Win EFL January Awards

12 February 2021

Matty Lund and Kwadwo Baah have both been recognised by the EFL for their performances in January.

We’re delighted to announce that Lund has been named as the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month, whilst Baah has won the prestigious EFL Young Player of the Month award.

The players received their awards at training on Thursday.

Lund notched up four goals and three assists in January, with another goal on Tuesday night taking him to 12 for the season.

The 30-year-old said: “Personally, and for the squad, it’s a positive thing for us all. I’m glad I’ve got the recognition for January because I thought it was a good month for me.

“Having scored a few goals I thought I might be in contention to win it, so it’s obviously nice to be recognised and for people to see what we’re doing at Rochdale.

“I’m full of confidence - I always go into games thinking I can score goals. This year it has probably paid off a little bit more, things seem to be going in a lot more which I’m pleased about from a personal aspect.”

Baah, who turned 18 towards the end of January, scored a stunning brace in Dale’s 4-4 draw at Charlton Athletic, along with a string of fine performances.

He commented: “It feels amazing to have won this award. To be picked out of all the players across the three leagues is a big honour.

“January was a crazy month for me - getting into team and playing so many games, and scoring the two goals against Charlton.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to have played as many as I have done so far this season. Brian and the team have been helping me a lot to understand the game with the experience that they have, and I’ve been putting my head down and I’ve been working very hard.”
