Interview | BBM's Post-Match Reaction - Accrington Stanley

17 April 2021

Manager Brian Barry-Murphy reflects on Dale 3-1 win over Accrington Stanley…

“To back up the performance from midweek [against Swindon Town] is never easy, especially bearing in mind how much we put into it. To see the style of performance was very important - the way that we attacked from the first minute to the last was significant for me and very uplifting for us all.

"It takes so much courage to play the way the lads did, to control the game and be brave breaking from deep areas of the pitch when it’s close to your goal.

“The movements of our lads have been rehearsed a lot this week and they really put it into practice on game day. That sounds easy and natural, but to do it in the heat of battle, especially having been in front and then conceding from one of Accrington’s few attacks, to show the same movements after that was pretty significant for us and confirmed what I thought previously. Our lads are in really good form, in a very, very good place and very excited for the rest of the season.”

He added: “[At half-time] we had to bear in mind that we have huge respect for the opposition and what they’ve achieved. We don’t compare ourselves to them but we have similar mindsets in terms of what we want to try and achieve in this league.

“I knew they would come back and push hard but I thought we were so good that we kept their attacks to a bare minimum. We were always on the front foot and to see the creative guys behind Jake Beesley, who was obviously stand out in terms of the way he led the line, work on really good rotations and find pockets of space in relation to each other was very good.”
