Ever-present Jimmy Keohane has been reflecting on the campaign so far, as Rochdale prepare to welcome Fleetwood Town to the Crown Oil Arena this Saturday.
Keohane has played in all seven of Dale’s fixtures and he says he is pleased to have been given the opportunity to do that.
“It’s a real positive getting game time, so I’m happy with that. I want to do the best I can do when I get in. No matter what position I play, I’m willing to do a job for the team.”
The 29-year-old who has played at both right-back and left-back this season started out his career as an attacking midfielder but says he adapted to playing in multiple positions before he came to Rochdale and it’s something that he enjoys.
“When I was first over in England, I was more of an attacking-midfielder. When I went back to Ireland I started being utilised in different positions, and, I suppose, as I’ve got older, I have become a bit more versatile having played in a number of positions. That has helped in the latter stages of my career.”
Keohane scored his first goal for the Club when he netted against Swindon Town in Dale’s opening league match of the 2020/21 campaign, and he’s hoping to add to that.
“It was nice to get on the score sheet. It wasn’t one of the best goals I have ever scored but I was pleased to get on the score sheet and get off the mark for the season and in my Rochdale career. I’ll try to get forward as often as I can and hopefully I can chip in with a few more this season.”
And Keohane says the team can take plenty of positives from their performances so far this season into the weekend’s game against the Cod Army.
“In terms of our performances, we’ve applied ourselves really well in the last few games. We have deserved more from the games recently, especially in terms of our team shape and the chances created. We’re getting there and hopefully it’ll all start coming together now and we’ll start getting points on the board.
“We’ve just got to take every game as it comes. We can take a lot from our recent performances and if we keep applying those things and start putting away some chances now, we’ll definitely give Fleetwood a good game.”
