Barry-Murphy On Salford City Tie

10 November 2020

Read the thoughts of Brian Barry-Murphy ahead of Dale’s final Papa John’s Trophy group stage tie against Salford City…

“It’s been a great competition for us over the last couple of years and Tuesday night will hopefully be no exception,” said the Dale boss.

“We have a couple of guys in Haydon [Roberts] and Tolaji [Bola] who can’t play because they have played in the competition already for their parent clubs, but other than that we’ll have a very similar squad to what we had in the previous games.

“They can be some of the most exciting nights in the calendar, in terms of seeing our younger players combined with our older ones. Hopefully, we can play well and really show what we’re about.”

Dale need just a point to advance to the knockout stages of the competition, whilst the Ammies need a win in normal time to progress at Dale’s expense.

“We’re always trying to progress in all of the competitions that we play in. There is an added incentive for us if we can really perform against a very experienced team that we can progress into the knockout stages.

“The huge benefit of that to us is that it will give our younger players a chance to show what they’re about and aid their development.”
